Hi, My name is Kerris Olsen-Jones and I have recently
starting working in the post of Young Adult Carer
Development Worker, which Hayley Thomas previously
occupied. I have always worked with young people and
feel privileged to have been given the opportunity to
work with such a deserving group of individuals. My
role is to ensure that as many young adult carers as is
possible are identified by publicising the service that the
Carers Support project offers, develop an understanding
of the needs of the young adult carers and signpost as
necessary. I hope to encourage young adult carers to get
involved in one to one sessions as well as group activities
in order to develop their confidence and social skills as
well as improving their social interaction.
I am aiming to organise group activities on a monthly
basis so that young adult carers are able to support each
other and share their experiences. Activities I have
organised since joining the team in September include
Canoeing, Cycling, skiing and tobogganing, Cinema trips
and our Christmas extravaganza is going to be at Winter
wonderland in Cardiff - complete with dodgy Christmas
jumpers!
I am absolutely loving my new post and will hopefully
make a significant contribution to the development of
young adult carers throughout the borough.
If you are or know of a young person between the age
of 18 and 25 who makes a significant contribution to the
caring of a family member, friend or neighbour please
