Carers from throughout the County
Borough flocked to a specialist day
where they found out more about
rights, support and advice.
Organised by Rhondda Cynon Taf
Council’s Carers Support Project, the
Carers Rights Day was held at Coleg
y Cymoedd in Nantgarw.
Carers Rights Day allowed carers the
opportunity to gain information and
advice needed to support them in
their caring role.This year’s theme
was 'rights, advice, support', focusing
on ensuring that carers understand
their rights and get access to good
quality advice that can support them
to care.
Cllr Mike Forey, Cabinet Member for
Partnerships and Adult’s Social
Services at Rhondda Cynon Taf
Council opened the event said,
“Being a carer can sometimes lead to
feelings of loneliness and isolation but
here in Rhondda Cynon Taf, we want
all carers to know they are not alone
and that there are many services and
networks out there which can help
emotionally and practically with the
caring responsibility.
“As a Council we appreciate that all
carers have different needs and
concerns and the talks and
workshops provided Carers with an
insight into the range of services on
offer.This year’s Carers Rights Day
was another successful event and we
hope it brought much needed
support and information to those
who need it the most.”
The Carers Rights Day
included talks and workshops
by Jessica Eades on Telecare,
DavidWatkins of CwmTaf Health
Board on Carers Measures and
Claire Hughes of the Carers and
Service Users Involvement in Training
(which helps carers get involved in
the recruitment and training of staff).
There was also a presentation from a
solicitor on Carers and their legal
rights.
Visitors also saw the excellent Young
Carers “Flashmob” which took place
earlier in the year to widespread
acclaim online.
