Lock Odyn-Galch, October 1913
Looking South from Lock Odyn Galch towards Lock Stackhouse and Lock Isaf. These three pairs of locks were part of a series of 11 locks at Abercynon that lowered the Canal 116 feet. With the five locks just to the North at Goitre Coed the total fall was over 200 feet in under a mile. It would have taken two hours for a boat to navigate these locks. In the distance can be seen the Dowlais-Cardiff Colliery, which opened in 1889 and closed in 1988.
