The Coliseum - Sybil Thorndike

The British Drama League Festival of Full Length Plays was held at the Coliseum in 1947, the first time the festival had been held outside of London and was adjudicated by Dame Sybil Thorndike.

24th October 1882 – 9th June 1976

Was an English actress who toured internationally in Shakespearean productions, often appearing
with her husband Lewis Casson. George Bernard Shaw wrote ‘St Joan’ with her in mind for the lead role, which she played to great success. She was made Commander of the British Empire in 1931, and companion of Honour in 1970.
